China and 4 other countries in Southeast Asia plan to connect their QR code payment systems, so that in future, when people from China travel to these countries or go on business, they no longer need to prepare foreign currency, and can directly scan the code to pay. The other four Southeast Asian countries are Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Currently, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are already connected to the cross-border QR code payment system, while Malaysia and Singapore have also signed the PayNow and DuitNow partnership and plan to officially launch it in the fourth quarter of this year.

Earlier, Touch ‘n Go Group announced the expansion of its cross-border payment capabilities to Singapore, where users can use the Touch ‘n Go eWallet to pay for ComfortDelGro taxis, the largest taxi operator in Singapore, operating around 9,000 taxis in the country. It operates about 9,000 taxis in Singapore.

The Philippines has also signed a cross-border QR code payment partnership with Singapore last year.
