Only 2,478 new Covid-19 cases, the lowest number in three months.

In the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry recorded 2,478 new Covid-19 cases, the second lowest number of infections in a single day this year. The last time this number of new infections was reported was on January 17th, when 2,342 cases were reported.  The latest figure puts the overall number of illnesses to 4,433,551 since the pandemic began in 2020.

For the second day in a row, health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah reported eight Covid-19 deaths. He stated that two of them were taken to hospitals dead. Five people died in Selangor, while two people died in Kedah. One death has been reported in Melaka. In the other states and federal territories, no deaths have been reported,” he added this morning in a statement.

The total number of people who have died as a result of the new coronavirus in Malaysia is 35,507. There were 2,478 new cases reported today, with 2,471 from the United States and seven from other countries. As of midnight, there were 68,007 active Covid-19 cases in the country, with 1,809 patients hospitalised. 98 of them are in intensive care units (ICUs), with 63 requiring mechanical ventilation.

In the last 24 hours, the ministry reported 9,215 recoveries. Yesterday, 143 additional hospital admissions involving Covid-19 instances were documented, according to Dr. Noor Hisham. There were 67 cases in Categories 1 and 2, and 76 in Categories 3, 4, and 5.

With 26, Selangor had the most fresh admissions, followed by Perak (21) and Johor (19). (18). Three additional clusters were reported yesterday, according to Dr. Noor Hisham. The Covid-19 infectivity rate in Malaysia is presently 0.73.
