Only 12 groups would be allowed to check in at check-in counters, according to AirAsia.

Notice! AirAsia will restrict the usage of check-in counters, allowing only specific passengers to do so.

Except for certain customers who can check-in at the counter, all passengers must check-in through the AirAsia app or Kiosk at the airport, according to an AirAsia statement.

AirAsia will eliminate the check-in fee at the counter from April 1, 2022, which implies that there will be no fee to pay when checking in at the counter. However, this measure will only be used by selected passengers.

From the third quarter of 2020, AirAsia will charge RM20 for domestic flights and RM30 for international flights for counter check-in. AirAsia had planned to raise the counter check-in fee to RM100 starting in March 2022, but the proposal was met with opposition, and the measure was eventually scrapped.

Contactless check-in, which allows customers to check in immediately through the app or website, is used by 95 percent of AirAsia passengers, according to the airline. As a result, beginning April 1, 2022, AirAsia counters will only be able to accept certain passengers for check-in.

When checking in at the counter, some passengers will not be charged any additional expenses. Certain travellers will be assisted at the counter, while others will need to check-in on their own via the app, website, or airport kiosk.

With the phasing out of counter check-in, no fees will be charged beginning April 1, 2022, since only the following categories and qualifying visitors will be able to use counter check-in for free:

• Seniors aged 70 and above

• Bookings authorized by the Malaysian Armed Forces and the Government

• Charter passengers

• Passengers who have self-checked in but need to reprint their boarding pass

• Passengers with reduced mobility with a valid disabled (OKU) card

• Group bookings of 10 people and more

• Young guests traveling alone (12-16 years old)

• Passengers affected by schedule changes and flight cancellations

• Guests with seat upgrades or add-on purchases at the check-in counter

• Passengers affected by an outage of the super app, website, or kiosk system

• Guests who are not assigned a seat during self-check-in

• Enterprise Full Flex and Premium Flex guests
