A horrific accident occurred at JR Mito Station in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan on the evening of the 26th. A 72-year-old man was accidentally caught in his clothes while riding an escalator in the station. He was seriously injured and was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital.
According to NHK reports, the station attendant at JR Mito Station in Ibaraki Prefecture reported to the fire station around 9 pm on the 26th that a man had fainted on the escalator from the platform to the ticket gate. When the police arrived at the scene, they found that part of the man’s shirt was caught in the escalator. The man was seriously injured and was pronounced dead four hours after being rushed to the hospital.
The report pointed out that the deceased was 72-year-old Mamoru Suzuki, who was preparing to take the JR train home from his company in Mito City.
The police said that when station personnel confirmed that the accident occurred, the escalator was still running, and the detailed cause of the accident is under investigation through the surveillance footage.
