Because of the epidemic, for a whole year and a half, we spent most of the time at home, staying with our families day and night. Many foreign couples stay at home for a long time, leading to an increase in the divorce rate, and Malaysia is no exception.

According to reports, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Shabiri pointed out that from March 2020 to August 2021, there were 76,786 divorce cases in Malaysia, of which 66,440 were Muslims and 10,346 were non-Muslims.

Among the non-Muslim couples who applied for divorce, Selangor ranked first in 3160 cases. Kuala Lumpur (2893 cases) and Perak (1209 cases) are the next.
Among the divorced Muslim couples, Selangor has 12,479 cases, followed by Johor (7,558 cases) and Kedah (5,985 cases).

The Prime Minister acknowledged that the epidemic and the subsequent Movement Control Order (MCO) had put pressure on married couples and families.

The Lembaga Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga Negara (LPPKN) also launched an online survey from March 5 to 14, 2007, and surveyed 1,148 respondents aged 18 or above and having children aged 7 to 24

According to the survey, 80% of the above-mentioned parents began to suffer from economic and mental pressure earlier this year. 28% of the respondents said that compared with the previous MCO, “this is particularly obvious, and 84.1% of parents are faced with emotional pressure, such as anxiety, tension and uneasiness.”

He also said that 63% of parents said they were suffering from depression, so 20.4% of them could not control their anger, followed by difficulty sleeping (16.8%) and frequent headaches or stomachaches (15.8%).
