As we enter June 2022, take a look at what’s new and big this June.
1. Public Holidays
There are four public holidays in June.
1 June (Wednesday): Daya Festival (Sarawak)
2 June (Thursday): Daya Festival (Sarawak)
6 June (Mon): Head of State’s Birthday (National)
19 June (Sunday): Sultan of Kedah’s Birthday (Kedah)
2. School Holidays
Primary and secondary schools will enjoy 9 days of school holidays in June! Sabah and Sarawak are closed a week earlier in the case of the Harvest Festival holiday and Daya holiday.
Group A (Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu): 3 June to 11 June 2022
Group B (Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya): 4 June to 12 June 2022
3. BKM Distribution
The Government will distribute the second phase of BKM assistance in June! Families earning up to RM2500 per month will be eligible for RM200 to RM400 assistance in June. Households earning RM2501 to RM5000 per month will receive RM100 in June. Elderly or widowed persons aged 60 or above earning up to RM5000 per month will receive RM150 in June.
Single persons aged 21 or above with a monthly income of up to RM2500 will not receive BKM in June and will have to wait until September to receive the remaining RM150.
4. BKM Appeal Deadline
Appeals for the BKM will be open from 2 May to 2 June 2022. There are 2 ways to appeal against the BKM, i.e. through the BKM website and by visiting the Inland Revenue Department (LHDN) office to submit an appeal form.
5. Form B tax return
Business people are required to submit their Form B tax return by 30 June or submit their e-B tax return by 15 July. People who file their tax returns late may be subject to penalties.
6. MRT2 comes into service
The first phase of the MRT2 Putrajaya Line will be launched on 16 June at 3pm with 12 stations, i.e. from Kwasa Damansara Station to Kampung Batu Station.
7. 9% Provident Fund Rate
The 9% EPF contribution rate for employees has been extended by six months from 31 December 2021 to 30 June 2022. This also means that if the government does not extend the 9% rate again, wage earners will have to pay 11% of their monthly EPF contributions from July 2022 onwards.
8. Stop exporting chickens
The government has announced a halt to the export of chicken from 1 June 2022. This measure will last for one month until the price and supply of chicken is stabilised.
9. Sales Tax Exemption for Cars
The sales tax exemption for cars will end on 30 June and the government has not yet announced whether the scheme will be extended. If the government does not extend the sales tax exemption, the price of cars will increase from July.
10. Vaccinations for children at their own expense
Under the Ministry of Health’s PICKids programme, children between the ages of 5 and 11 can be vaccinated free of charge. However, the PICKids programme ended on 31 May, which means that children who have not yet been vaccinated will have to pay for their own vaccinations from June.
This measure does not apply to children who have already received their first dose of vaccine and are waiting for their second dose, or to children who turn 5 years old after 31 May.
11. Compulsory school uniforms for students
The Ministry of Education has announced that students will be required to wear school uniforms from 12 June onwards and that students will no longer be exempted. Previously, the Ministry of Education granted exemptions for students to wear casual clothes to school.
12. Maybank transfer limits adjusted
Maybank has announced an increase in the daily transfer limit for IBG, DuitNow Transfer and DuitNow for personal users, which will be combined from 18 June 2022, i.e. a maximum of RM50,000 per day.
For business users (Sole Proprietor), the maximum daily transfer limit for IBG, DuitNow Transfer (IBFT) and DuitNow will be RM100,000 from 18 June onwards.
13. Automatic unbundling of Maybank and ASNB
All ASNB accounts already tied to Maybank2u will be automatically untied (Unlinked) from 18 June 2022. Users can re-bond (Relinking) manually after 18 June.
This change is Maybank’s effort to provide an enhanced internet banking experience for its customers and will enhance the confidentiality of their information. This change will not affect any ASNB account transactions.
14. ASNB System Upgrade
ASNB will undergo a system migration to provide a better user experience. During the migration process, ASNB will suspend its services from 4 June to 7 June 2022.
The last date of service for all ASNB funds prior to the system migration is 3 June 2022, while the last date of service for ASNB Equity 5, ASN Equity Global, ASN Imbang 3 Global and ASN Sara 2 is 2 June 2022.
15. Retirement of Internet Explorer
IE is the browser of Microsoft Computer. In recent years, Microsoft has started to replace IE with the Microsoft Edge browser.
