19/11/2021

The Unlikely Murderer tells the story of Stig Engstrom, an unassuming graphic designer who becomes a suspect in the assassination of former Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme, but thanks to luck and police confusion, is not convicted or sanctioned. It is a suspenseful drama based on the semi-true story of a mind-boggling murder in Sweden in 1986.

As you can see from the play’s poster and trailer, there is a dark and depressing atmosphere throughout the play, giving the audience a deeper sense of this type of depression in just five episodes.

After a public shooting witnessed by multiple people, Stig Engstrom tells the police that he was actually a witness, but a series of police investigations fail to uncover the truth and it is later revealed that the witness’s testimony does not add up. A few years later, a journalist tit-for-tat reopens the investigation into the unexplained shooting. As the plot develops, everyone has a clue as to who the killer is, but they can’t believe it.

Some details are laid bare to the audience, leaving them in a state of disbelief: “Is it really that simple? Although the show is only five episodes long, the pace is quite slow, but it is this slow pace that makes the show more breathtaking.

It is available in Netflix with only five episodes and about 45 minutes per episode. If you like mysteries, you shouldnt miss it.
