National election must be held before July 2023, the Prime Minister said he does not rule out an early national election!
According to a message from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ishmael Sabil, the national election could be held any time within a year from August this year and the Prime Minister called on BN to be ready to usher in the election.
BN and the opposition parties have previously signed an agreement that Parliament will not be dissolved before July 31 this year. The last national election was held on May 9, 2018.
Under the Federal Constitution of Malaysia, the country is required to hold elections every five years unless the Prime Minister proposes to the Head of State to dissolve Parliament early or a motion of no confidence in the Prime Minister is passed by parliamentarians.
It is expected that the Prime Minister will announce the dissolution of Parliament for a national election later this year and will not wait until the Parliament expires next year.
