Malaysian citizens aged 18 or above are being urged to check their voter data as the general election is likely to be held in early November.
The five UMNO leaders held a high-level meeting on the evening of September 30, in which they decided to dissolve the parliament in order to hold a national election this year. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ishmael Sabil will announce the dissolution of the parliament to hold a general election in the near future.
There are rumors on the internet that the Prime Minister will announce the dissolution of the parliament between October 11 and 14, and the national election is expected to be held in early November.
As the government has implemented the measure that Malaysian citizens aged 18 or above are automatically eligible to vote, you can vote in the general election as long as you are 18 years old or above and do not need to register manually.
You can check your voter information through the special website of the Malaysian Electoral Commission. The ad hoc EC website is https://pengundi.spr.gov.my/. After entering your ID number and verification code, the system will display your voter information. Through the EC website, voters can check their parliamentary and state assembly constituencies, polling locations and other information.
It is understood that the number of voters has increased significantly after the implementation of the automatic registration as a voter mechanism. The total number of voters has increased from 15.2 million in 2018, to 21 million, or an increase of 5.8 million. Among them, there are 1.2 million new voters between the ages of 18 and 21, while 4.6 million new voters are over 21 years old.
