Najib has received a memorandum from a non-governmental organization asking the government to allow members to withdraw their savings from their provident fund accounts.

According to a Facebook post by former Prime Minister Najib, the NGO submitted the memorandum to Najib to request the government to allow members to withdraw RM10,000 from their CPF accounts for the last time. 50,000 signatures were collected for the memorandum.

Najib said that the people are struggling with the difficulties caused by the epidemic and the floods. Najib also pointed out that he is an MP from Beigan, but also a former prime minister, so he will not compromise and will not give up his voice for the people. Najib asked the government to listen to the voice of the people and approve the withdrawal from the CPF account.

Earlier, Action Party MP Wong Kin-man criticized former Prime Minister Najib and UMNO President Ahmad Zahi for increasing their popularity by pressuring the government to extend the CPF withdrawal scheme. Wong said there are currently 3.6 million CPF Board members who have less than RM1,000 in savings, which will affect their retirement savings, yet Najib and Ahmad Zahi are calling for more people to withdraw their money.

Now it has become a political issue whether to approve members to withdraw from their CPF account or not. UMNO President Ahmad Zahi, UMNO Youth Chief Asraf, former Prime Minister Najib and other leaders are blasting the Finance Minister for being insensitive, while the Finance Minister is also hitting back at these politicians for being populist.
