Everyone knows that a Malaysian identity card (MyKad) is so important to Malaysians. But do you know when we need to replace our Mykad? The following 4 situations need to replace our MyKad.
A Malaysian citizen only needs to replace or apply for a MyKad in 4 cases.
The four conditions are:
a. Malaysian citizens aged 12 years and above must apply for the first MyKad (the application for the MyKad must be within 30 days after the 12th birthday, otherwise a fine will be imposed. The latest date to apply for the Malaysia Card is before the age of 16)
b. Malaysian citizens aged 18 years and above but not more than 25 years old, must renew their adult MyKad.
c. Damaged, lost MyKad, or need to update personal data (e.g. update home address)
d. When the National Registration Department issues a notice compulsorily renewing MyKad
Although the old version of the MyKad can still be used as usual if it is not damaged. However, the Malaysian National Registration Department (JPN) encourages the public to update to the latest version of MyKad. For example, if people using the old version of MyKad want to apply for an international passport, they may need to renew their MyKad first.
The new MyKad uses laser engraving technology to engrave the cardholder’s MyKad number, name, and portrait photo on the MyKcard, and the MyKad’s built-in chip is also an anti-counterfeiting function.
