SUNGAI TANI: Muhammad Haziq Mohd Asyraf, 12, became a social media phenomenon after his video of the discovery of a python in Bukit Selambau went viral.
Nur Shakilla Zainol, 33, his mother, was keeping things in check to ensure that his popularity did not interfere with his education.
Nur Shakilla stated that she ensured Haziq’s internet activities would not overburden the youngster, and that she had turned down more than 20 requests from individuals and businesses for her son to conduct product reviews.
“I have to reject them, informing them that my son is unwell or has to go to school. Haziq did not protest when I turned down the requests,” she said recently.
She stated that if there was a genuine desire to participate in any of the programmes, Haziq would have agreed, and she would not push her son to accept an invitation.
Nur Shakilla expressed her hope that her son will take the correct path while pursuing his interests, but added that she would not put any pressure on him to make a decision.
Subberi Salleh, headmaster of SK Bukit Selambau, stated that the school expects him to thrive in his studies.
He advised others not to take advantage of the youngster since he was concerned about Haziq’s academic performance.
“The school has no problem with Haziq wanting to attend any invitation, so long as he does not neglect his studies. We will also monitor things as what we do is for Haziq’s future. Those who wish to have Haziq on their programmes should find a suitable time that will neither affect his studies nor health,” said Subberi.
Haziq recently interviewed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, inquiring about topics such as the prime minister’s favourite meals and daily routine.
