MMA encourages the MoH to address staffing shortages and issues related to doctor burnout.
According to Dr. Koh Kar Chai, president of the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA), some states in the nation are currently facing a physician shortage.
Dr. Koh explained that while the patient load varies from state to state, the doctor-to-patient ratio is generally consistent. The MMA suggests that the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) and Ministry of Health (MoH) conduct mapping to determine the current trend in general and subspecialty cases in each state and allocate human resources appropriately.
Dr. Koh added that junior medical officers’ allocations must be taken into consideration when planning by state health departments.
Instead of planning the workforce around these temporary employees, allocate permanent staff to the hospitals and departments.
There is no staffing crisis concerning medical officers at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) and Tunku Azizah Hospital, the Ministry of Health stated yesterday (HTA).
In reaction to a letter that was allegedly authored by HKL and has subsequently gone viral, the ministry released a comment.
The letter forewarned that both hospitals will have a medical officer shortage as a result of junior doctors’ (floaters’) departure beginning on July 18.
According to the MoH, the transfers were a regular practise to carry out directives and occasionally process applications for the transfer of officials.
