KUALA LUMPUR: The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC) believes that this year’s National Craft Day (HKK2022) programme would create RM10 million in local craft sales.
From February 23 to March 7, it will feature the work of 30 local entrepreneurs, ranging from traditional textiles to classic woodcarvings.
Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri has estimated that approximately 30,000 people will attend this year’s event.
“We have successfully generated over RM245.4 million sales, through 7,831 local craft entrepreneurs and 1.1 million visitors since the programme was introduced in 2003. This is proof that our local handicrafts are marketable, either locally or internationally, and we are constantly looking for ways and ideas to continue marketing them.
The 30 hand-blocked batik pieces recently designed by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, as well as other local handicrafts for sale and promotional activities, are among the anticipated exhibitions.
