The Minister of Communications and Multimedia Annuar Musa pointed out when answering a question in Parliament that Malaysia’s mobile network speed has increased, from the previous 25Mbps to 31.34Mbps.
According to a report by Lowyat Technology Media, the data used by the Minister of Communications and Multimedia Anuya Musa is not completely accurate because the data used by the Minister is the average internet speed. The average internet speed does not show the experience of ordinary users. In statistics, the median is more able to reflect the actual situation.
Lowyat also compiled the median speed of the mobile network in Malaysia in the past year from the OOKLA Speedtest Global Index. The download speed was only 16.95Mbps in October last year, and it reached 23.74Mbps in October this year. This shows that the download speed of our mobile network has improved.
The download speed (median) in October last year was 16.95Mbps, in December it was 17.71Mbps, in January 2021 it dropped to 15.80Mbps, in April it was 20.80Mbps, in June it was 17.34Mbps, in September it was 21.27Mbps and in October it is 23.74Mbps.
The Ministry of Communications of Malaysia’s goal is to reach an average network speed of 35Mbps by the end of 2022, and this target is still far from the actual network speed.
