On the 19th, a 5-person mini-submarine vanished in the Atlantic Ocean. It is known that Hamish Harding, a British billionaire, and other passengers were on board. The main objective, according to United States Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger, is to find the submarine’s precise location. The submarine has 96 hours’ worth of oxygen, the operator has informed us. The submarine may only have about 70 hours of oxygen left given how long it has been down.
Mauger is in charge of the search and rescue effort, according to CNN. He stressed how crucial it was to find the lost submarine first. A rescue strategy will be put into action as soon as the submarine is located. He said that in order to investigate the possibilities of carrying out underwater rescue operations, they have been in touch with the US Navy, the Canadian Armed Forces, and commercial companies in the area.
Mauger emphasised that the submarine had 96 hours of oxygen on board, based on data provided by the submarine’s operator, OceanGate Expeditions. There should be enough oxygen on board for between 70 and 96 hours, according to the Coast Guard.
The miniature submarine is built of titanium and carbon fibre and weighs 10,432 tonnes. It is 6.4 metres long, or around 21 feet, long. The Titanic, which sank in the North Atlantic in 1912, was found in 1985 and is now submerged about 12,000 feet (3,962 metres) beneath the surface of the water.
Five persons can fit inside the mini-submarine, including the pilot, a “content expert,” and three paying customers. It costs $250,000 for the 8-day vacation, which may be taken without prior diving expertise. The planned dates for the mission were June 12 through June 20. The presence of British billionaire Hamish Harding on board has been verified.
To hear any sounds coming from the area where the submarine vanished, the search and rescue operation sent out helicopters and ships with sonar buoys. The Canadian Armed Forces have also sent out military aircraft to aid in the search, in addition to the US Coast Guard.
