People are urged to be vigilant as long-lasting rainstorms are expected in eight states in the country.
According to a weather report issued by the Meteorological Department of Malaysia, the east coast of the peninsula, the North Malaysia region and Sabah will experience continuous heavy rainfall and flooding may break out in low-lying areas. The affected areas include Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak and Sabah, and will be affected from December 14 to 18, 2021.
The low pressure in the western part of Sarawak will move towards the east coast of the peninsula and is expected to reach Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang waters on December 15. The low will then move towards North Malaysia by December 17, bringing continuous heavy rainfall to the area.
The depression, which is now in the southeast of the Philippines, is expected to cross the waters of northern Sabah from Dec. 16 to 18, bringing rain to the area.
People in the areas concerned are urged to be alert to the weather changes and the Meteorological Department will continue to monitor the situation and issue rainstorm warnings if necessary.
