According to Malaysian Meteorological Department (MMD), low-lying areas in several states of the peninsula are likely to be flooded in November. Meteorological Department has issued an emergency backpack guide to deal with natural disasters.
In the guide, the Met Office advises people living in high-risk areas to pack 10 items in an emergency backpack to be prepared in the event of a serious flooding outbreak.
The 10 items are clothing, shoes and blankets, a whistle, money, a torch and batteries, durable food, a portable radio, an emergency medical kit, water, a mobile phone and a rechargeable battery, as well as important documents such as identity cards.
Our country will start the north-east monsoon season at the end of October every year, when rainfall will increase significantly. In December last year, there was a serious flooding outbreak in the Seremban region, which caused serious financial losses as many people were unable to evacuate.
