ALOR STAR: It appeared like a scene from a drama when a cruel, disobedient son attacked his elderly parents after a disagreement, only it was a real-life occurrence.
This is what happened in a 30-second video of a man lecturing his defenceless parents who were sitting on the ground pleading for his mercy.
The man, apparently agitated, abruptly kicked his father’s back with full force before leaving the house.
Several neighbours witnessed the crime but were too terrified to interfere or react.
The event in Yan’s Kampung Ruat, which was captured on video by an unidentified witness, has now gone popular on social media.
According to Yan police chief Deputy Superintendent Shahnaz Akhtar Haji, the victim, who is also the suspect’s stepfather, filed a police report after the 8.30 a.m. incident.
An inquiry indicated that the 30-year-old suspect was mentally challenged and had a drug addiction problem, according to him.
“The suspect ran amok after his step-father refused to give him money to buy drugs.
“The man is a hardcore junkie and he had assaulted his step-father on many occasions, whenever the victim refused to give him money for his drug fix,” Shahnaz said in a statement.
He stated that the man sought treatment at Yan Hospital after suffering injuries to his back, chest, and face.
“The man was detained about 6.45pm today in Lubuk Boidi here and checks confirmed that he is a registered mentally disabled patient,” he said.
The man is being investigated by police for assault and domestic violence.
