Maybank issues an article reminding users to be vigilant when downloading unknown software!

02/06/2022

Maybank posted a warning to users to be wary of downloading unknown software to avoid interception of SMS for money transfers!

According to a Facebook post by Maybank, the Malaysian Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT) has issued a security advisory on the recent fraudulent activities that have occurred. When a user installs an app with malware on their phone, their bank details can be stolen.

According to MyCERT, the app with malware will be able to view all SMS messages sent to the phone, which includes the TAC number required for online banking transfers.

Maybank urges users to follow the guidelines outlined by MyCERT to avoid becoming victims of fraudulent activities. If people encounter similar fraudulent activities, they can call the fraud hotline at +603-5891 4744 to report it.

However, MyCERT’s website was not available at the time of writing, so the guidelines listed by MyCERT are not available.
