Maybank and CIMB to freeze accounts with one click!

29/01/2023

News of bank account theft has been heard from time to time, which makes many people reluctant to put too much money in their bank accounts.

The National Bank has called on banks to strengthen their banking systems to prevent similar incidents from happening again and again. The country’s banks have also started to introduce the function of freezing accounts with one click in order to reduce the money loss of users.

Currently, Maybank and CIMB have introduced the function of freezing accounts with one click, which allows users to freeze their accounts through the bank’s app. After freezing the account, users need to call the bank’s hotline to unfreeze the account or go to the bank counter to unfreeze the account.

1. Maybank

Maybank has launched a one-click account freezing function that allows users to freeze their accounts on the MAE APP. You can open MAE APP and click More in the function bar below, then you will see the Kill Switch function. Users can click Kill Switch, then select Deactivate M2u Access, then select Deactivate Now.

It is important to note that freezing your account in this way will prevent you from using the web or app to log in to Maybank2u and from using Maybank2u for transactions.

However, this freezing method will not affect Auto Debit or Standing Instructions, which are the automatic debit instructions set by the user. It will also not affect ATM withdrawals, ATM transfers, transfer cards or credit card usage.

2. CIMB

If users find unknown transactions or suspicious activities in their CIMB accounts, they can directly open the CIMB Clicks APP and then freeze their accounts. Then contact the bank to understand and report the unexplained transactions of the account.

Users will not be able to use CIMB Clicks for any transactions after manually freezing their accounts, and they must call the CIMB hotline or go to the bank counter in person to unfreeze their accounts.

To freeze your bank account, you can open the CIMB Clicks APP, then go to Services, then to your Profile Page, and select Lock Clicks ID.
