Maxim violated the law to allow the operation of unlicensed electric car Land Transport Department: the crime can be fined 500,000 or imprisonment

The Land Public Transport Act 2010 says that the EHO, in charge of the Maxim app, broke the law by letting its vehicles drive in Putrajaya and Pahang without a taxi license.

In a statement released today, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said that the Kuantan, Pahang-based company broke the law during the Ops e-Hailing initiative.

It said the operation aimed at people who let vehicles run in the country without being registered or licensed.

The Land Transport Authority said that data from the Land Public Transport Agency showed that only 402 of the 5,000 active vehicles that used the Maxim app had a dial-a-ride permit.

The agency said it also took some company equipment and papers, like computers, advertising boards, and banners, to be looked into later under Article 222 of the Land Public Transportation Act.

“Companies that let a dial-a-ride run without a dial-a-ride permit are subject to prosecution under Section 12A(9) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010. If found guilty, they could be fined between RM1,000 and RM500,000 or imprisoned for up to two years.

The Board said that companies that want to run a dial-a-ride service and give dial-a-ride drivers a dial-a-ride operator system must register with the Land Public Transport Agency or the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Authority and apply for a license.

The Land Transport Authority tells people who use dial-a-ride services first to check the websites of the Land Public Transport Agency or the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Authority to ensure that the dial-a-ride app they use is registered or licensed.

“This is to make sure that people who use the service can file insurance claims if they get in a car accident while using it.”
