A Facebook user recently shared his grandmother’s tragic experience, in which her RM30,000 funds were almost entirely ruined by termites, rendering them almost worthless.
His grandmother had placed the money in the box to be used on a pilgrimage the following year, but she had no idea it would be attacked by termites, resulting in significant losses.
He also stated that while he was able to exchange some of the damaged notes at the central bank, some of the money had become unusable.
He warned the public not to keep significant sums of money at home in order to avoid termite infestations.
The message drew a lot of attention from netizens, with many saying that the money should have been deposited in a bank or converted into gold.
“Converting the money into gold would at least prevent it from being destroyed by termites.”
“I believe it’s safer to keep the money in a bank.”
Others recommended using a glass jar to store money, as it would eliminate the issue of termite damage.
