A man testing a jet ski goes missing near Pulau Talang-Talang Besar in Sarawak.

Yesterday evening, a 46-year-old man who was testing out a new jet ski suddenly disappeared near Pulau Talang-Talang Besar.

His friend, who was travelling on a different jet ski, last saw the victim close to the island.

From the Pak Amit jetty in Santubong, they set sail for Satang Island in order to conduct the test run and to go fishing nearby.

The victim’s buddy claimed that they made the decision to travel three nautical miles offshore in the direction of Telok Melano and PulauTalang-TalangBesar due to favourable weather conditions. The victim’s buddy quickly realised the victim was not riding his jet ski behind him as they were leaving the island, though.

One nautical mile or around 10 minutes ahead on the jet ski was the victim’s friend. The companion then went back in the direction of Pulau Talang-Talang Besar to look for the victim. However, neither the victim nor the jet ski were found. The victim’s last known outfit was black.

The victim’s friend subsequently filed a police report at the Lundu police station at 7pm, which led to the start of a search-and-rescue (SAR) effort. The Sarawak Coastguard, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, marine police, Police Air Wing Unit, and Fire and Rescue Department all collaborate with the SAR.
