Man Apologizes for Manipulating Interview with Penang’s Caretaker Chief Minister

07/07/2023

Tan Jian Hui, the man who edited and altered an interview with Penang’s caretaker Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow, has publicly apologized to him in a video posted to YouTube today.

The modified video clip, which was meant to be hilarious, contained topics unconnected to the original interview and was intended to assist single guys in finding mates.

Tan Jian Hui emphasized that his objective was not to accuse Chow Kon Yeow of contributing money to schools in order to find a future girlfriend, as implied by the altered film. Instead, he aimed to excite the public with the state’s progress by emphasizing positive changes in Penang, such as the usage of LED lighting and the foundation of the Penang Future Fund.

Tan Jian Hui stated that his expression and approach were wrong and expressed regret over his own carelessness. He truly regretted any hurt or worry caused to Chow Kon Yeow by this incident and promised that such an incident would not occur again.

Previously, a video clip went popular on the internet, showing an AI-edited version of Chow Kon Yeow’s interview, in which he jokingly hinted that he donated funding to schools in order to identify prospective girlfriends for single men and erected LED lighting in order to better observe attractive ladies.

Chow Kon Yeow had previously said that this act was a violation of the Communication and Multimedia Act, and his political secretary, Cheng Lai Heng, had reported the matter to authorities.
