Malaysia’s overall inflation rate stood at 2.3% in April, with food inflation reaching 4.1%.

According to data released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), inflation was 4.1% for food and beverages, 3.2% for restaurants and hotels, 3% for transport, 2.7% for furniture and household, 1.8% for miscellaneous goods and services and 1.3% for entertainment services.

In terms of food, milk, cheese and eggs rose by 7.2%, meat by 6.2%, vegetables by 4.5% and fish and seafood by 3.8%.

Chicken was priced at RM9.47 per kilo in March and has now risen to RM9.50, while beef has increased from RM35.93 per kilo in March to RM36.26 in April. tomatoes were priced at RM5.86 per kilo in March and have risen to RM5.98. watermelon was priced at about RM2.85 per kilo in March and has now risen to RM3.43 per kilo.

The five states with the highest inflation rates were Selangor and Putrajaya at 3.1%, Pahang at 2.4%, Terengganu at 2.3%, Penang at 2.3% and Johor at 2.1%.
