Malaysia’s borders would reopen on April 1 to coincide with the shift to the endemic phase, according to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri.

Malaysia’s shift to the endemic phase of Covid-19 would begin on April 1, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Despite this, he stated that the public will be required to wear a face mask in public and that MySejahtera will continue to be used.

It’s critical that he emphasises that “the transition to the endemic phase” is an exit strategy that will allow us to return to routine after two years of fighting Covid-19.

According to Ismail Sabri, this phase is just temporary, and we may only enter the endemic stage if the World Health Organization (WHO) permits it.

On a similar topic, the country’s borders will reopen on the same day. Foreign visitors with valid travel credentials will be able to enter Malaysia without having to apply for the MyTravel Pass, which will be phased out.

All we have to do now is complete out the MySejahtera app’s pre-departure paperwork.

Upon arrival in Malaysia, foreign visitors who have taken two doses of the Covid-19 vaccination will not be subjected to quarantine.

They will just need to take an RT-PCR test two days prior to their trip to Malaysia, followed by a professionally conducted RTK-Antigen (professional) test within 24 hours of their arrival.

According to Ismail Sabri, this will make travel easier for travellers from neighbouring countries who have already opened their borders to tourists, as well as revitalise the tourism industry.

He added the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) would stay in place for countries whose borders are still blocked, such as Thailand and Singapore.

Ismail Sabri declared that once Malaysia enters the endemic phase, all limitations on store and restaurant opening hours will be eliminated.

Customers must scan their MySejahtera app before entering any restaurant, he noted.

“We’re getting rid of the time limit for companies,” he continued, “so if you want to get a snack after midnight, you may as long as the premises’ licence allows it.”

He also stated that places of worship will no longer be restricted to a 50% capacity, and that cross-state travel will be permitted regardless of vaccination status.

“We have also decided to eliminate the one-metre social separation limit in mosques and other places of worship.” We had previously set a 50% capacity limit. The Islamic agencies of the states, however, have the final say,” he says.

The prime minister stated that the Ministry of Health will provide further information to anyone who wish to visit the nation but have not been vaccinated during a press conference tomorrow.

“On behalf of the government, I’d want to express my gratitude to every member of Keluarga Malaysia who has faithfully followed the SOPs and supported the government’s objectives.”

“We would not have been able to transfer to the endemic stage without your help,” he continued.

Owing to issues surrounding the increase in cases due to the Omicron form, Malaysia postponed its transition to the endemic stage, which was scheduled for last year, followed by disastrous floods in eight states in December.
