Malaysian victims of job scams in Cambodia have safely returned home.

The successful return of 24 Malaysians who were victims of job frauds in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, today.

The victims, who were between the ages of 20 and 30, were escorted back by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah, who was in Phnom Penh on a business trip. They boarded flight AK0539 at around 4.50 p.m. to arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (klia2).

Another 29 Malaysians, according to Saifuddin, are still in the Cambodian immigration depot because they entered the country without valid travel permits, but all of them are safe.

Saifuddin claimed that on his business trip to Phnom Penh, he was able to visit seven Malaysians who were at the immigration depot there. Meanwhile, 22 more were reportedly in the Sihanoukville region.

118 Malaysians who were victims of employment offer fraud in Cambodia have so far been rescued out of 148 cases that have been recorded.

He cautioned Malaysians once more against accepting any attractive overseas employment offers, saying: “If you get any offers, contact our embassy in Phnom Penh so they can help examine whether the company is legitimate or not instead of travelling there without the necessary information.”

Around 5,000 Malaysians worked and conducted business in Cambodia, and the 500 Malaysian businesses there were all prospering.
