KUALA LUMPUR: According to the Malaysian woman, she was detained and taken into custody by Chinese police at an airport when she was carrying a friend’s bag that contained medication.

Lisa Lim, 45, stated that she was returning to Malaysia following a trip to Kunming, China, on January 7.

Her buddy Lim claims that “Datin Ng” asked her to keep onto her suitcase because she had other luggage to attend to.

Lim consented, but Chinese immigration officials later stopped her at the crossing.

She claimed that a significant quantity of Chinese medicine in the form of crushed pills was inside the bag she was holding.

But even when drug-sniffing dogs found no evidence of drugs, she was still being held by the Chinese authorities.

Lim’s buddies, meanwhile, were boarding a plane to return to Malaysia.

She said, “I was told that I would be released in three days but I was kept in lock-up for 30 days,” at a news conference held at Wisma MCA on Tuesday, February 20.

On February 7, she was freed from detention, and on February 8, she went back home.

Lim claimed that she was cut off from her friends and family during the whole ordeal.

Lim confronted Ng about the bag when she got back, but Ng dismissed her.

“Even my friends who were with me on the trip told me to forget about the incident,” she said.

Head of the MCA’s public services and complaints department Datuk Seri Michael Chong stated that Lim’s reputation had suffered and that she and her family were under a lot of stress as a result of the experience.

“She’s fortunate that no drugs were discovered when she was freed.

“However it is greatly irresponsible for Ng to not care or bother about what happened,” he stated.

According to Department Legal Advisor James Ee, a person may be detained in China for up to 37 days.

He said that he had given Lim advice on any possible litigation against Ng. “And they can prevent you from using a phone if they feel it would jeopardise their investigations,” he stated.
