The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said that the 4G network coverage within the country has reached 95.52% in the first phase of the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA)!
According to MCMC, the average internet speed across Malaysia has also increased to the current 40.13Mbps as of the first quarter of 2022 (as of March 31), which is almost 5Mbps more than the initial target of 35Mbps.
Not only that, MCMC also revealed that the number of premises connected via fiber optics has surpassed the 7 million mark in the first quarter, reaching 7.027 million, still some way short of the original target of 7.5 million.
In addition, for the progress of the closure of the 3G network, MCMC currently has as many as 86.6% of its subscribers successfully migrated to 4G network services, and the remaining 13.4% of subscribers have been notified of the migration.
However, between January and March, MCMC received a total of 23,803 complaints related to network quality, a significant decrease compared to the 54,607 complaints in the same period in 2021. Of these complaints, 11,285 were related to poor 4G network coverage, accounting for nearly 47.41 percent of the complaints. As for which areas initiated the most complaints, they were Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Selangor and Johor Bahru, Johor.
