As Malaysia will enter the transitional period of local epidemics on April 1, and the country will reopen, coupled with the upcoming Ramadan month, it is expected that the traffic flow on Malaysia’s roads will increase significantly.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Mat Kasim Karim told Utusan Malaysia that the police expect the traffic flow from April 1 to increase by 90% compared to the traffic flow during the implementation of the movement control order last year.
Previously, due to the implementation of movement control in Malaysia, the daily traffic flow of Ramadan was only 400,000 vehicles, which started last week. The traffic flow on various avenues increased significantly, with 1.02 million vehicles per day on the North-South Highway on weekdays and 1.2 million vehicles on weekends.
Police expect a 90 percent increase in daily traffic to 4.7 million vehicles a day from April 1. Therefore, the police urge road users to drive carefully and reach their destination safely. The public is also urged to abide by the traffic rules and not to drive recklessly to avoid accidents.
