Labour Day is a statutory public holiday and employees working on this day will be paid double wages.

24/04/2022

Under Section 60D of the Labour Act 1955, all wage earners are entitled to 11 paid public holidays per year, five of which are statutory public holidays, namely National Day, the birthday of Agong, the birthday of the Sultan, Labour Day and Malaysia Day.

As Labour Day on 1 May is a statutory public holiday, employers who require their employees to work on this day are required to pay them double wages.

All government departments and schools in Malaysia will be closed on 1 May. All state territories (except Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu) will have a supplementary holiday on 2 May and government offices will also be temporarily closed on 2 May. If you plan to visit government offices on 2 May, you will have to change your schedule.
