The La Nina phenomenon is appearing in our country and the rainfall will surge and last until March!

According to the director of the Meteorological Bureau, as quoted by the Star Daily, our country is facing the La Nina phenomenon. This is expected to last until March, with a 95% probability of occurrence. This means that wet weather will continue to occur during the Chinese Lunar New Year.

La Nina is a condition in which the sea surface temperature in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean becomes abnormally cold, while the western Pacific Ocean experiences an increase in sea temperature and a decrease in pressure, and humid air will accumulate in the western Pacific Ocean to form typhoons or tropical storms. Each year the occurrence of La Niña will have a different impact on the climate, depending on the intensity of La Niña.

La Niña is graded as weak, moderate or strong. Historically, only one strong La Niña has occurred, from May 1988 to the next May.

Currently, Malaysia is also in the midst of the northeast monsoon season, with frequent rainfall on the east coast of the peninsula and eastern Sabah. The public is urged to be more vigilant and to comply with the instructions to evacuate once they receive the evacuation notice from the authorities.
