The Employees Provident Fund (KWSP) will hold a press conference today at noon to report its annual results. The details of KWSP’s dividend are scheduled to be announced during the press conference.
In previous years, KWSP announced the dividend on the second to fourth Saturday of February, but this year, instead of announcing the dividend in February, KWSP announced the dividend in early March.
In 2016, KWSP announced its dividend on February 21, 2017 on February 18, 2018 on February 10, and in 2019 on February 16. The dividend will be announced on February 22, 2020, and the dividend will be announced on February 27, 2021.
KWSP announced 5.20% for traditional accounts and 4.90% for Islamic accounts last year, and it is generally expected that the dividends this year will be between 5.20% and 6.00%. Since KWSP launched Islamic accounts in 2016, the dividends are lower than those of traditional accounts. Whether the same will be true this year, let us wait and see.
KWSP announced its results for the first nine months of last year in early January. Investment income for the nine months ended September 30, 2021 was RM48.02 billion, an increase of 7.7% from RM44.6 billion for the same period in 2020. The EPF’s investment income in the third quarter of last year was RM13.97 billion, which was a decrease of 19.4% from RM17.33 billion in the same period of 2020.
