Kuala Lumpur will experience a ‘noon without shadows’ on Monday 28th March, according to an infographic released by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. This is because the sun is directly overhead, so there will be no shadows in direct sunlight.
Every year, between 20th March and 5th April, the equator is the time when the sun is directly overhead, between 0° and 15° of the ecliptic, and some areas experience a noon without shadows when the sun is directly overhead.
Due to the different latitudes and longitudes of the regions, the “noon without shadow” can occur at different times. This phenomenon has already occurred in Kundian, Indonesia and Quito, Ecuador on 21st March, in Kota Tinggi, Johor on 25th March, in Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur on 28th March and in Kuala Terengganu on 3rd April.
