Kuala Lumpur is a safe city in the world! According to a report in China Press, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) published the Safe City Index for 2021, and Kuala Lumpur ranked 32nd with an overall score of 66.6 this year, ranking higher than Beijing, Dubai and Yegada.
Kuala Lumpur was ranked 35th with 66.3 points in 2019. And this year’s overall score is slightly higher than the average level of 60 cities around the world (66.1 points).
Copenhagen, Denmark, topped the list with 82.4 points, followed by Toronto, Canada, and Singapore ranked third.
The remaining cities are Sydney, Australia, Tokyo, Japan, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Wellington, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Australia and Stockholm, Sweden.
The report ranks according to 76 indicators in five security fields, namely, numbers, health, individuals, infrastructure and environment. The environment is also a new field this year.
The report said that the newly added fields reflect the increasing importance of sustainability issues and climate adaptation measures during the epidemic period.
Kuala Lumpur ranks as number (No.35), health (No.38), individual (No.33) and infrastructure (No.37) in five security fields, with scores lower than average.
However, in the field of environmental safety, Kuala Lumpur ranked 10th with 81 points, which was higher than the average level (68.5).
According to the report, the index objectively measures the safety of global cities, making cities of all sizes and different income levels comparable.
The index includes multiple aspects, such as governance, infrastructure, socio-economic factors and technical systems, and covers cities of different regions, income levels and scales.
