29/01/2022

According to a report by Free Malaysia Today, Transportation Minister Wei Jiaxiang said JPJ is studying new technologies for vehicle registration, including the installation of RFID, QR codes or chips on license plates or road taxes.

For example, the RFID tags now required to pay tolls, plus the RFID tags that may be installed later on license plates or road taxes, will result in one vehicle having too many RFIDs. JPJ is studying how to integrate multiple RFID tags.

Malaysia’s law enforcement authorities on the lack of standardization of license plate specifications, the road often appear fancy and strange license plate vehicles, which led the government to face difficulties in the implementation of automatic license plate recognition system.

In fact, as early as 2005, the government already has plans to introduce RFID-enabled license plates, RFID will contain the vehicle and the owner’s information, which will be effective in eliminating car theft incidents. However, this plan has not yet made any progress.

Neighboring Indonesia is beginning to introduce black word with white background and support RFID license plates, which will allow law enforcement authorities to more easily grasp the information of vehicles violating traffic rules. Black word with white background license plate can also make automatic license plate recognition system easier to identify the license plate.
