It turns out that these places are non-smoking! So you can be fined up to RM10,000!

In order to protect the health problems of other people in public places, the Ministry of Health has implemented a smoking ban since 2019. Not only will all domestic restaurants and food stalls be designated as non-smoking areas, but in 2020, fines will be issued to smokers who do not comply with the regulations. But, in addition to restaurants, the Malaysian Ministry of Health has successively listed many non-smoking areas in recent years. If smokers smoke in these no-smoking areas, once they are reported, they will face a minimum fine of RM250!

According to Article 11 (3) of the Tobacco Control Act 2004, anyone who smokes in the 23 gazetted no-smoking areas will be fined no more than RM10,000 or imprisoned for no more than 2 years and will be issued by the Ministry of Health Law enforcement officers launched enforcement operations.   1. In entertainment venues or theatres, except bars, discos, nightclubs or casinos.
  2. The extent of any hospital or clinic.
  3. In elevators or public restrooms
  4. Any restaurant range
  5. On public transport or in a bus shelter
  6. Buildings gazetted by the Ministry of Health
  7. Airport range
  8. Scope of government departments
  9. Any place in a building that is used for group activities
  10. Scope of Educational Institution or Higher Education Institution
  11. Nursery
  12. School bus
  13. The area within the building with service counters
  14. Shopping mall range
  15. Gas station range
  16. Gymnasium, sports centre, fitness centre
  17. Any building or public place used for religious purposes
  18. Library scope
  19. Internet cafe
  20. National Service Battalion Scope
  21. Any open space for recreation and leisure, including landscaping and greenery, such as walkways, sports fields, playgrounds and playgrounds, except open car parks
  22. Camping sites (areas for setting up tents for camping activities, including buildings within the premises)

Some other states also have designated no-smoking areas. For example, the government has established all sidewalks and overhead bridges in Kuala Lumpur, and the underground pedestrian tunnels in the city have also been designated as no-smoking areas. In addition, the Penang government has also listed the George Town Heritage Area and the Batu Ferringhi Tourist Area as non-smoking areas.
