The damaged roof of a house in Taman Klebang Jaya is seen as residents in Ipoh clean up after a storm on November 8, 2023.

IPOH, November 8 — “I read out loud the azan (Muslim call to prayer) three times, felt like horses were running on the roof,” said 65-year-old Ismail Daud of the storm that blew off part of his roof in Klebang Jaya here today.

According to the retired soldier, he was sleeping in the living room while his wife and two children slept at 4.15 p.m.

“I woke up when the ceiling fell unexpectedly.” At the same time, the roofs from the kitchen to the living room were blown off one by one,” he explained to me tonight when we met at his house.

The rain and strong winds, which lasted nearly 20 minutes, blew off the roofs of neighbouring houses and pulled the poles and electrical wires in the area, according to him.

This nervous him, and he said the azan three times aloud.

“The storm stopped as soon as I recited it for the third time.” “I’m grateful that no one in my family or anyone else was hurt,” he said.

Ismail, who has lived in Taman Klebang Jaya for 22 years, said storms had previously occurred twice, but today’s was the worst.

Another victim, D. Thanivel, 66, said he and his family were not at home when the incident occurred because they were visiting a sick relative at an Ipoh hospital.

“When a neighbour informed me that my house’s roof had been blown off and water had entered the house, I rushed home.”

“When I got home, I saw the roof in my living room had been blown off, and two of the three rooms had been blown off, and the ceiling had collapsed as well,” Thanivel, who lives there with his wife and son, said.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force of Perak said in a statement that the storm damaged 47 houses in Taman Klebang Jaya after two hours of heavy rain.
