Istana Negara and other well-known landmarks in KL shine orange in support of tonight.

18/09/2022

This evening, Istana Negara and other well-known buildings in KL will shine orange light.

Tonight, the federal capital’s Istana Negara and a number of other landmarks were bathed in orange light as a show of unity in honour of World Patient Safety Day 2022, which is currently taking place (Sept 17).

Together with the Federal Territories Department of Health, Istana Negara took part in the initiative by turning on orange lights at the Main Gate, Parade Square, and Anjung Utama Dome, three key areas around the palace, beginning at 8 p.m. and lasting until 10 p.m.

As early as 7.30 p.m., iconic structures in the capital city, including the Kuala Lumpur Tower, started to glow in an orange light that could be readily seen from Istana Negara.

To honour the sacrifices made by the nation’s first responders in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the country at the time, the Istana Negara was earlier in May 2020 also illuminated at night, but with blue light.

The programme, which is celebrated all over the world, is a resolution to raise awareness of patient safety, according to Dr. Siti Nor Emyliana Su’aif, primary senior assistant director of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Health Department.

As a representation of universal health coverage and as the designated colour for World Patient Safety Day, orange was chosen. This year’s festival is centred around the idea of “Medication Without Harm.”

Residents of the federal capital can contribute to the programme by taking part in the photographic contest associated with tonight’s “KL in Orange” event.

Participating organisations in the orange solidarity included Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital, Tuanku Muhriz Chancellor’s Hospital UKM, University of Malaya Medical Centre, Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital, and Institute of Respiratory Medicine.

Every year on September 17, World Patient Safety Day is observed to promote worldwide cooperation and coordinated action by all parties to enhance patient safety and recognise it as a top priority in global health.
