Instagram to suspend live shopping function from March

18/02/2023

Live shopping has recently taken off in the U.S., and big science companies have developed related technologies to get a piece of the market. However, technology giant Meta has decided to “sing the opposite,” announcing that its social platform Instagram will stop supporting live shopping and will no longer let creators label goods during live broadcasts starting in March.

Hong Kong Economic Times said that online media TechCrunch reported that Meta will stop live shopping on Instagram and that starting March 16, Instagram users won’t be able to tag products while live streaming.

But Meta made it clear that companies can still open and run stores on Instagram even after the feature is gone. They just won’t be able to tag products directly.

Meta also said that advertising would be more critical, and businesses would still be able to promote their products in Stories, Feeds, and Reels. Also, it will be easier for consumers to buy things.
