Inland Revenue Board announces updated list of tax deductions!

The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia has announced the list of tax reliefs for the tax year 2021!

 

Under the Malaysian Income Tax Act 1967, regardless of whether you are a Malaysian citizen or a foreigner, as long as you reside in Malaysia for more than 182 days in a year and have income, you are obliged to file a tax return.

 

There are several new items added to the list of tax deductions for tax year 2021, one of which is an additional tax deduction of RM500 for the purchase of sports equipment and gym fees in the Quality of Life category.

 

Other continuing tax deductions include up to RM3,000 for parents who send their children to preschools or nurseries, up to RM1,000 for people who travel within the country, and an additional RM2,500 for electronics purchases.
