The number of Covid-19 cases is still below 20,000, with 17,321 new infections and 30 deaths.

With 17,321 new infections recorded in the last 24 hours, the number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia remained below 20,000.

In a statement issued this morning, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the overall number of cases since the outbreak began had reached 4,219,395 instances.
In the last 24 hours, he claimed, 30 Covid-19 deaths have been reported, including five cases classed as brought-in-dead (BID) cases.

The death total has now reached 35,013.

He claimed that 99.37 percent of new cases, or 17,365, were in categories one and two, while less than one percent, or 0.63 percent, or 111 cases, were in categories three, four, and five.

Out of the 111 cases, 22 cases (19.82%) had not been vaccinated or had not been fully vaccinated, 45 cases (40.54%) had not received their booster doses, 44 cases (39.64%) had received their booster doses, 62 cases (55.86%) were over 60 years old, 59 cases (53.15%) had comorbidities, and one case involved a pregnant mother.

He added a total of 17,321 cases were collected yesterday, increasing the total number of cases recovered to 3,977,403 (94.3%). Six more clusters were detected yesterday, bringing the total number of active clusters to 194.

According to Dr. Noor Hisham, 897 Covid-19 cases were admitted to hospitals yesterday, with 429 instances (47.8%) in categories three, four, and five and 468 cases (52.2%) in categories one and two.

According to Dr. Noor Hisham, Wilayah Persekutuan’s intensive care unit (ICU) utilisation is at 67 percent.

Non-ICU beds were used at more than 50% in two states, with 88 percent in Wilayah Persekutuan and 64% in Selangor, according to Dr Noor Hisham. He said that in the other states of the country, less than half of the Covid-19 Low-Risk Treatment and Quarantine Centres were used (PKRC). The number of Covid-19 patients who require ventilators has decreased to 162, bringing the total number of patients on ventilators to 18%. He added yesterday that 263 people were hospitalised to the ICU, with 125 confirmed Covid-19 instances and 138 suspected or under investigation cases.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate maintained at 0.87 countrywide, with the greatest rate of 1.07 in Selangor and the lowest rate of 0.65 in Sabah.
