About 80% of the public strongly supports vaccine mandates in Malaysia.

According to a research, more than 80% of Malaysians support vaccine regulations, with more than 80% of the population supporting proof of Covid-19 immunisation for travelling, dining at a restaurant, or joining a workplace.

In addition, the study found a similar level of support for mandatory vaccination for all those who are eligible.

In a statement released today, Ipsos Malaysia claimed the poll, titled “Vaccine Mandates,” found that 83% of Malaysians strongly or somewhat support mandating people to get a vaccine before returning to routine activities like travel.

It found that 84% strongly or somewhat support restaurants requiring proof of vaccination to dine inside; 83% support businesses asking workers to get vaccinated before returning to work; and 83% support making the Covid-19 vaccine mandatory for anyone eligible (82 per cent).

The online survey included 20,525 adults under the age of 75 from 30 nations, with 500 from Malaysia.

The Omicron wave was at its apex in Malaysia, according to Ipsos Malaysia public relations associate director Lars Erik Lie, and it appeared to be receding globally, prompting renewed hope that life will begin to return to normal.

However, the virus’s longevity in the form of new varieties suggests that, rather than waiting for it to go away totally, we may have to learn to live with it.

According to him, a majority of people around the world feel that no matter what steps are taken, they would not be able to entirely stop the virus from spreading.

While immunisation policies vary by country to lessen the harmful effects of living with Covid-19, there is widespread agreement to retain such regulations in place, he added.
