HFMD cases in Johor dropped to 1,090.

In Epidemiology Week 23 (EW 23), the number of cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) in Johor fell by 401 to 1,090.

Ling Tian Soon, head of the Johor State Health and Unity Committee, said the decline was likely due to the school holidays, and that they would continue to evaluate case progress every week.

It’s probable that the decrease in HFMD instances is due to the school holidays (EW 23), when most children are at home rather than in daycares, kindergartens, or nurseries.

Since HFMD was discovered in the state, a total of 28 nurseries and kindergartens have been ordered to close for disinfection until cases are under control.

The Johor State Health Department (JKNJ) and all District Health Offices (PKD) are now implementing HFMD awareness programmes at nurseries and kindergartens throughout Johor as a preventive step.

Meanwhile, when it came to dengue fever cases in the state, he stated EW 23 had a 32 percent spike in cases, with 99 cases compared to 75 instances the previous week.

The mega gotong-royong programme was launched to minimise dengue fever cases in the state, and it will be held in phases across the state.
