IPOH: A hit-and-run incident on Jalan Tanjung Rambutan-Chemor here resulted in serious injuries to a 34-year-old junior police officer.
The policeman suffered fractures to his shoulder and ribs during the incident on Sunday, February 4, at approximately 7.30 p.m., according to Perak police head Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.
“The police officer was patrolling on a motorbike.
“Having spotted a suspicious car that was parked by the roadside, the policemen went to inspect it,” the statement read.
“Without warning, the driver of the automobile slammed into the policeman’s motorbike, sending it flying.
“The driver moved forward and reversed his car again, hitting the policeman a second time before speeding away,” said the officer.
According to Comm Mohd Yusri, the case will be looked into for attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
“Those found guilty face a maximum 20-year prison sentence.
“The police are now looking for the driver of the car involved,” stated the officer.
“Those with information can contact senior investigating officer Asst Supt Norazlina Rais Ahmad at 013- 628 2176 or come forward to the nearest police station to assist investigations,” he stated.
