According to information released by the Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs, people can claim compensation from their airline if they are unfortunate enough to experience a delayed or cancelled flight while travelling by air. However, this does not apply to flight delays or cancellations caused by bad weather or safety issues.
If your flight is delayed by 2 hours or more, you can ask the airline for free food, free phone calls and free internet access. If your flight is delayed by 5 hours or more, passengers can ask the airline for free accommodation services and free transport.
For those who encounter flight cancellations, they can ask the airline for a full refund or an alternative flight.
If the airline is not willing to cover your losses, you can appeal to the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM).
