If Malaysia’s index of infection exceeds 1.6, the number of new cases in a single day will exceed 30,000!

Health Director Tan Sri Nohithan said that if the country’s transmission index exceeds 1.6, then the number of new cases in a single day will exceed 30,000. As of February 10, Malaysia’s transmission index is 1.51, and the number of confirmed cases on a single day is close to 20,000.

The so-called transmission index is the number of people a diagnosed patient will infect, the higher the index means the higher the number of infectious people, the index is less than 1, the number of confirmed cases will be less and less. An index of 1.51 means that one confirmed patient can infect 1.51 people.

As of February 11, the transmission index was 1.29 in Selangor, 1.68 in Sabah, 1.39 in Penang, 1.36 in Johor, 1.36 in Kelantan, 1.24 in Melaka and 1.23 in Kuala Lumpur.

Although the number of new cases in Malaysia is close to 20,000, however, only about 0.5% of the cases need to be admitted to hospital for treatment, the remaining 99.5% belong to asymptomatic or mildly ill patients, so it will not squeeze our healthcare system for the time being.
