How to choose 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi?

Generally, newer routers are dual-band, meaning that they emit two bands of wireless at the same time. So how should users choose which band to use? A lot of people think 5GHz is the fastest, so they prefer it, but is that really the case?

Like other wireless products, wireless routers belong to radio frequency (RF) systems. They need to work within a certain frequency range to communicate with other devices. This frequency range is called the wireless router’s operating band.

Because different products use different network standards, they use different working bands. Wireless routers generally work in two bands: 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz.

The 2.4GHz band was the common band used by early wireless routers and continues to be used today. Now, 5GHz is also becoming widely used, combining with 2.4ghz to form dual-band wireless routers.

Overall, 5GHz is good for close range while 2.4GHz for long-range. The 5GHz band is recommended when you are close to your router, such as in your living room, where the router is located. On the other hand, when you’re a little further away from your router, such as if it’s downstairs and you’re upstairs, use the 2.4GHz band.
