A social insurance scheme for housewives will be introduced on 1 December, under which housewives can apply for compensation in the event of an accident while carrying out household activities.
To enhance the rights of housewives, the Social Insurance Agency (Perkeso / Socso) has announced the introduction of a social insurance scheme for housewives, also known as SKSSR, from 1 January 2022, which will cost RM120 per year and must be paid in advance.
It will cover housewives in the unfortunate event of an accident while doing household chores. This also covers injuries or death in a car accident while caring for children, taking children to school and caring for a sick parent.
Benefits available to insured persons include medical compensation, permanent incapacity compensation, caretaker’s allowance, rehabilitation or institutional training, disability pension and funeral expenses.
Both full-time and part-time housewives, married or unmarried, widows or single mothers can join the Housewives’ Social Insurance Scheme, provided they are Malaysian citizens or permanent residents.
